Ever since the press conference held by the union on June 25th regarding the potential national security crisis caused by employing foreign seafarers, it has sparked discussions nationwide. Now, after two months, there's finally a breakthrough!
Our association was invited to attend a coordination meeting hosted by Legislators Lin Yi-Chin and Hong Shen-Han on August 29th. The meeting aimed to discuss the potential national security crisis arising from the employment of seafarers and the labor rights of Taiwanese seafarers. This session focused on resolving the issues concerning indefinite contracts for seafarers and the adequate protection of labor conditions onboard.
During the meeting, legislators demanded that the Ministry of Economic Affairs, Ministry of Transportation, and domestic shipping companies address the current labor conditions of seafarers. There was a specific request for the Ministry of Transportation to publicly disclose the schedule for standardizing indefinite contract templates.
Now, we're just a step away from rationalizing the labor conditions for seafarers. Please continue supporting the union, and let's finish this final mile together!
