Congratulations to Pilot Union's Unity - EVA Air Grants Highest Raise of NT$13,500
"If Pilots Can Unite, We Can Too!"
Since the Taoyuan Union of Pilot (TUP) EVA Air Branch obtained the legal right to strike on January 22 and announced the possibility of striking during the Lunar New Year and Qingming Festival, EVA Air and the Ministry of Transportation have actively engaged in negotiations with the union. On January 28, EVA Air not only accepted a salary adjustment for the previous year but also agreed to raise the monthly salaries for captains by NT$13,500, senior first officers by NT$11,000, and first officers by NT$10,000. Additionally, the company agreed to adjust the annual salary grade cap for first officers and senior first officers. The union extends special congratulations to the brothers and sisters of the pilot union for achieving such fruitful results through unity.

EVA Air Group has been known for its tough stance in labor negotiations, with rumors circulating during the strike vote that the group would not concede and might even use the opportunity to eradicate the union. Whether true or false, EVA Air did not show goodwill until the strike vote was confirmed. Despite the company's traditionally strong and rigid stance, facing the unity demonstrated by the pilot union, with an agreement rate of over 90%, EVA Air accepted the union's demands within a short span of six days. Undoubtedly, this is a victory for unity and a victory for laborers!
The nature of work for both pilots and seafarers is remarkably similar—working away from land, engaging in long-term international travel. These aspects pose challenges for union organization. However, the TPU has shown us that nothing is impossible with determined individuals. A united call from the union, echoed by pilots worldwide, is enough to instill fear in the employer. Today's victory for pilots also serves as a reminder that seafarers, who face similar challenges, need unity. While pilots strive for conditions beyond legal requirements, seafarers struggle to even secure basic conditions in line with labor laws. Therefore, seafarers need unity. If pilot brothers can achieve what they did today, seafarers can too. The improvements in salary and benefits that pilots have fought for can be attainable for seafarers one day. We look forward to the next wave of labor strikes in the transportation industry, starting with China Steel Express.
